The Smile Dental Academy’s Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics provides dentists with the knowledge and understanding of the latest techniques in Endodontics. The PGDip in Endodontics aims to the cover the fundamental aspects of endodontics allowing clinicians to treat relatively straightforward endodontic cases to more advance re-treatment and complex cases.
The Diploma will extend over a 12-month period involving 18 days of face to face teaching (incorporating lectures, hands on practical sessions, typodont course and case based discussions) with a guided self-directed learning component between formal teaching days.
This comprehensive course is divided into 4 Modules covering core knowledge (Module 1 and 2), clinical skills (Module 3) and enhanced clinical skills (Module 4). The course will be delivered by a team of GDC registered specialist endodontists with significant experience in hospital and practice based clinical practice.
Delegates will gain knowledge and practical skills allowing them to assess, evaluate and diagnose cases and treat endodontic cases in General Practice. Comprehensive support will be provided throughout the course.
This programme is designed for dentists who are looking to enhance their clinical practice and skills, through a platform which offers continual access to support, advice and knowledge. The Diploma in Endodontics is suitable for dentists working in any type of practice. It caters for a wide range of dentistry so delegates can enhance their clinical skills no matter which environment they are working in.
The Postgraduate Diploma Endodontics aims to help add to, refine and strengthen clinical skills, thereby building clinical confidence, whilst continuously refining patient communication and management. By developing the skills in assessing case suitability and complexity, and with the support of our lecturers, delegates will be able to take on a larger array of dental treatments, applicable to all types of dental practice.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics was set up to help dentists feel supported in their day-to-day clinical practice. The programme is designed to not only enhance clinical skills, but help coach delegates, allowing them to assess their own clinical settings, to help ensure they get the most out of the programme.
Day 1: Endodontic Pathology, Pre- Endodontic Assessment & Case complexity, Endodontic diagnosis including Special investigations and Pain management in Endodontics (LA/ Analgesia in Endodontics)
Day 2: Rubber dam in Endodontics and Pre-endodontic build up
Day 3: Pre-endodontic Assessment, Longitudinal tooth fractures
Day 4: Tooth Anatomy and Morphology aiding Access cavity design and Canal Location
Day 5, 6 and 7: Principles of Endodontics – Chemo mechanical debridement/ Irrigation of the root canal system
Day 8 – Dento – Alveolar trauma and Endodontics
Day 9 – Obturation of the root canal System and treatment of open apex
Day 10 – Retreatment in Endodontics
Day 11 and 12 – Management of Endodontic Mishaps
Day 13 and 14 – Restoration of the Root Treated Tooth
Day 15 and 16 – CBCT in Endodontics
Day 17 Part 1: Medico – Legal Aspects in Endodontics/ Record Writing/ Consent
Day 17 Part 2: Communication Skills in Dentistry
Day 18: Case Based Discussionm, Assessment (MCQs and Case Presentation)
